Nathan Karns Goes Up to Rays

If ever I needed an example of how little I understand baseball, this would be it. Why would the Rays promote the pitcher with, by far, the least impressive stats of any pitcher on the Durham Bulls roster?

All I can come up with is that, since he was supposed to start today, he is the most rested of the  bunch.

Meanwhile, a lefty reliever from Montgomery, Jim Patterson, is coming to Durham. Decent stats.

Heath Bell, a veteran reliever, was designated for assignment. Guess that it’s possible he could show up in Durham if he doesn’t get claimed. See the Tampa Bay Times link for how that might play out. Could be expensive for the Rays.

Durham Bulls starter for tonight’s game has not been announced. By committee? Sandoval? Where’s J.D. Martin when we need him?
